Palmetto
Dunes, SC
The company's first major development acquisition
was Palmetto Dunes on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina in November
1979. Under Greenwood
Development's direction, the 2,000-acre oceanfront property with three
miles of oceanfront and a 25-mile lagoon system was developed into
the island's most complete resort and residential community.
In 2003, Palmetto
Dunes was named the "Number One Family Resort in the US" by
Travel + Leisure Family magazine.
Palmetto Dunes features three award-winning
championship golf courses (Robert Trent Jones Oceanfront, Arthur
Hills and George Fazio), an award-winning tennis center, two world-class
oceanfront hotels, an array of sophisticated shops and restaurants,
and a full spectrum of homes and villas that cater to both the
resort visitor and the permanent resident. The resort is also home
to PalmettoDunes Outfitters, opened by Greenwood Development in 2005.
The adventure headquarters situated on the resort's extensive lagoon
system rents kayaks, bikes, canoes, beach and fishing gear, as
well as conducts nature tours, fishing charters, and lessons.
Shelter
Cove Harbour
Adjacent to Palmetto Dunes is Shelter
Cove Harbour, which features Hilton Head Island's largest
deep-water marina. Surrounding the harbour is a unique Mediterranean-style
village with quaint shops, galleries and restaurants. During
the summer months, Shelter Cove is alive with nightly, family-oriented
entertainment including colorful arts and crafts bazaars, live
music and spectacular fireworks displays.
